Compliance – watching our waste line

Reduce, reuse and recycle

Globally, KWE is committed to help realize a low-carbon society. We make every effort to implement the '3Rs': reduce, reuse and recycle waste of the main materials that we might otherwise dispose of. These include wooden pallets, plastic wrap, plastic bands, cardboard cartons, office paper and general trash. We have switched our print production policy to ensure the use of ISO 9001-14001 paper.

Cargo Security: Part 108
As a premier air freight cargo company, we pride ourselves in being compliant to the many laws that govern the movement of cargo, not only in South Africa but also globally. We were the first agent in South Africa to be certified against the CAA's Part 108 security policy and this was by no means an easy feat. We continuously strive towards maintaining the highest possible standards when it comes to managing our customers' freight. We are certified in the following of our facilities: Jacobs – Durban, Jet Park – Johannesburg Airport and Industria – Cape Town.

C-TPAT (Customs trade pact against terrorism)
KWE have been certified globally as C-TPAT compliant. This standard governs all cargo entering the USA, either by air or ocean. We do pride ourselves in ensuring that all cargo destined for the USA meets their stringent requirements such as ISF etc.

AEO (Authorised Economic Operator)
We are AEO compliant. The requirements are similar to C-TPAT and governs all cargo entering Europe.

ISO 9001:2008
KWE are compliant to the ISO 9001:2008 standards as prescribed by ISO. We are currently undergoing the certification process, and aim to have the audits completed before the end of July 2011. We have adopted the ISO 9001:2008 as the ethos of Company and use the quality elements defined by ISO, to create a Business system and not a Quality system.

ISO 14001
At KWE, we are striving to obtain a certification in ISO 14001 upon receipt of our certification for ISO 9001:2008, as audited and recommended by TŰV Rheinland in June 2011.

As a business group, we enthusiastically embrace environmental preservation practices. Locally, we have already replaced of our server infrastructure and effectively reduced electricity usage by approx 60%. We have also committed to plant for every container sent from Johannesburg to Durban.

Financial Compliance
As a subsidiary of KWE Inc, a public entity listed on the Nikkei stock exchange, we are bound by the Financial Instruments and Exchange Law of Japan (JSOX). Whilst KWE South Africa is audited against GAAP and IFRS 7, we are audited against JSOX as well, so as to ensure financial compliance across the group of companies, thereby protecting the interests of our shareholders, investors and employees respectively.

Japan continues to lead the green charge
KWE in Japan have made great strides into actualizing effective measures to improve the effect of business operations and the impact thereof on the ecological environment. The successes achieved, will now be implemented at all the KWE offices.

Our Japan office introduced hybrid trucks into the freight delivery fleet and the results achieved thusfar, have been well worth the investment. Our efforts to implement ecologically sound driving techniques, improved vehicle maintenance, inspections and fuel efficiency have been recognized in the form of numerous and significant awards. This demonstrates that our global vision to play a serious role as a good corporate citizen within global communities, aren't mere boardroom pipe-dreams.

Measures to increase the efficiency of electric power at terminals directly operated by KWE include the introduction of energy-efficient machinery, strict control of heating and cooling and the installation of a solar power generator at the Narita terminal.

As of March 2010, KWE received ISO 14001 certification from the International Standards Organization for environmental management systems at six of the KWE Group's locations in Japan and for 8 locations overseas.
